Frequently Asked Questions we often receive in the office and over the phone
What is the Gonstead Method of Chiropractic?
The Gonstead Method sets itself apart by focusing on the body’s structural foundation and intervertebral discs, making it one of the most highly regarded chiropractic techniques worldwide. It’s not just a quick fix—it’s a comprehensive system that looks at the whole person to uncover the root cause of pain or discomfort. Gonstead chiropractors expertly analyze spinal misalignments, nerve dysfunction, and foundational imbalances, ensuring that each adjustment restores natural alignment and optimal movement.
If disc issues are present, Gonstead practitioners can also incorporate advanced treatments like Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression on the DRX9000, further setting this method apart. This approach requires a high level of skill and mastery, using a complete biomechanical analysis to target spinal, pelvic, and neurological effects that impact your overall health.
What makes the Gonstead technique truly unique is its in-depth spinal analysis system. Gonstead chiropractors utilize advanced X-ray analysis to evaluate the spine’s structure, along with tools like the Nervoscope to detect inflammation and nerve pressure. They also use motion and static palpation to assess spinal movement, swelling, and muscle tightness.
With the Gonstead Method, you’re not just getting hands-on care—you’re receiving a precise, personalized approach that targets the underlying issues affecting your health, offering a long-term solution to pain and dysfunction.
Why is it considered to be so effective?
- Highly Specific: Its detailed assessment methods ensure that only the exact vertebrae needing adjustment are targeted, avoiding unnecessary manipulation.
- Restores Nervous System Function: By correcting spinal misalignments (subluxations), it aims to improve communication between the brain and body, reducing pain and promoting overall health.
- Long-Lasting Results: Many patients report long-term improvements after Gonstead adjustments, as it addresses the root cause rather than just symptoms.
- Gentle and Safe: The precision of the adjustments means that the technique can be applied safely, even for those with significant pain or injury.
In summary, the Gonstead Method is valued for its accuracy, personalized approach, and ability to promote natural healing through proper spinal alignment.
Will I need X-rays?
We will only take x-rays if clinically necessary. X-rays reveal a great deal of information that helps us understand what’s going on with your spine and what areas we should focus on to maximize care to your nervous system.
Are you on my insurance plan?
It depends. There are thousands upon thousands of different insurance plans, even within the same insurance company. Bring your insurance card and our office will see if your plan covers chiropractic.
Will I need to go for many visits?
Most people need a few visits and some people need many visits. The number of visits that will be required to correct your condition depends on the severity of the condition, the length of time you had it, whether you exercise, if you are overweight, your stress level, whether you let it heal during the process or you continue to aggravate it, has it started to degenerate etc. Roughly speaking, from a symptom standpoint, people with an easy problem improve in a couple of days to a couple of weeks. Difficult problems can take months to years.
Will I need to go to a Chiropractor forever?
As with any healthy lifestyle choice, it is always best to continue for a lifetime. Would it make any sense to begin working out, getting into the best shape of your life, feeling the best you have in years and then to stop? If you begin to eat a healthy diet of fruits and vegetables to get your body working at its optimum physical and mental state, would it make sense to stop and go back to eating chips and soda? Once people achieve health, it makes sense to maintain it. However, it is always up to you how much you want to benefit from chiropractic care.
